NB: Best intro book to Eritrean politics. It covers from Italian time until the current state.
2. Understanding Eritrea [Inside Africa's Most Repressive State] by Martin Plaut
NB: The right book to understand the current state of Eritrea.
3. From Guerilla To Government, The Eritrean People's Liberation Front by David Pool
NB: The focus is on the EPLF from 1970s to 1991. It balances the exceptional discipline and work of the front with the suffering of internal dissents (Menkae, Yemin...).
