Bio

NASA executive for public prize competitions and crowdsourcing. Author|catalyst|champion for expanding public engagement with science and technology with more than 20 years of experience in the U.S. federal government in policy and program development roles. My passion is bringing diverse viewpoints, values, and capabilities together with recognized expert knowledge to create policies, programs, and uses of science and technology that effectively serve society’s many stakeholders. At NASA I develop strategies to expand the space agency’s use of open innovation methods in its research, technology, and exploration activities. Prior workplaces include the White House Office of Management and Budget and FAA’s commercial space transportation office.

I speak and write about space policy, public engagement, and open innovation at NASA. I'm the proud editor of Space Science and Public Engagement: 21st Century Perspectives and Opportunities (Elsevier, 2021), a book showcasing the experiences and insights of some of the world's leading practitioners and scholars in this arena. My forthcoming second book is on public engagement with the space shuttle program.
