Originally from California, I did my BA in Politics at UC Santa Cruz (1989), a Masters in Political Science at Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison (1993) and an Executive Masters at INSEAD (2016).

I have spent most of the 21st Century in Japan and currently reside in Sapporo. Usually, I travel 2-3 months of the year with my wife. I read widely, drink mostly responsibly but also widely, hike but never to excess, speak lousy Japanese but have advanced menu reading skills, listen to a wide range of music, and laugh whenever possible.
