It was Abū al-‘Āliyah رحمه الله one of the Salaf who said:

فقد أنعم الله علي بنعمتين لا أدري أيهما أفضل : أن هداني للإسلام ، أم لم يجعلني حروريا.

“Allāh has blessed upon me two favors, I do not know which one of them is superior, that I was guided to Islaam or that I was not made to be a Ḥuroorī (Khaarijee).”

Imām adh-Dhahabī whilst mentioning a narrator in the chain of a Ḥadeeth said:

تركوا حديثه كان يستخف بالأئمة وكذا سنة الله في كل من ازدرى العلماء ؛ بقي حقيرا

“Abandon his speech, he used to belittle the Imaams and such is the Sunnah of Allāh with regards to anyone who reviles the scholars, that he remains INSIGNIFICANT.”

● The salaf would not take narrations from the khwarij

‏And I (Allah) create not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone). – Qur’an (51:56)

‏Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth? – Quran (57:16)

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

‎طَلَبُ الْعِلْمِ فَرِيضَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ

Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.

Imam Barbahaaree rahimahullaah said:

“And know, may Allaah have mercy upon you, that the Religion is only what came from Allaah, the Exalted and Most High. It was not left to the intellects of men and to their opinions; and knowledge of it is what comes from Allaah and from His Messenger.

So do not follow anything based upon your desires and therefore depart from the Religion and leave Islaam. There will be no excuse for you, since the Messenger ﷺ explained the Sunnah to his nation, and he made it clear to his Companions and they are the Jamaa`ah, and they are the Main Body. And the Main Body is the Truth and its people. So whoever contradicts the Companions of Allaah’s Messenger ﷺ in anything of the affairs of the Religion he has disbelieved.”
