Torah Portions w/ ברית החדשה

Why do Hebrews Read the Torah Portions?
In this Club, we read, chant, and expound upon the Torah Portions, which enriches our relationships with יהוה. As יהוה commanded Yahoshua 1:8 "Yes, keep this book of the Torah on your lips, and meditate on it day and night, so that you will take care to act according to everything written in it. Then your undertakings will prosper, and you will succeed."

Torah readings begin with The Men of The Great Assembly, אַנְשֵׁי כְנֶסֶת הַגְּדוֹלָ Anshei Kh'nesset HaGedolah‎. The first account is found in the Book of Nehemiah, where Ezra the scribe writes about wanting to find a way to ensure the Israelites would not go astray again. This led to the creation of a weekly system to read the portions of the Torah at synagogues.

Who are the Men of The Great Assembly?
אַנְשֵׁי כְנֶסֶת הַגְּדוֹלָ
Anshei Kh'nesset HaGedolah‎.
Men of The Great Assembly: A panel of 120 prophets and sages--including Ezra, Nehemiah, Mordecai, Daniel, Simeon the Righteous and the prophets Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi--which constituted the ultimate religious authority at the onset of the Second Temple Era (4th century BCE). Among their accomplishments was the composition of the text of our standard prayers and blessings.

What are the Benefits of Reading the Torah Portions?
As it is written in Ex 20:12, Honour thy father and thy mother, that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest live long on the good land, which the Lord thy God gives to thee.
When our Ancestors returned from the Babylonian Exile, the Prophet and Scribe, Ezra, instituted the Torah Portions as a way of ensuring that we would Remember and Keep the Commandments of יהוה . The Word Father, Av, in Hebrew actually means “male ancestor, living or passed.”
As we adhere to the instructions of our Righteous Ancestors, we gain the knowledge concerning our Holy Text, and more importantly, we also gain the favor of יהוה as it is written in Ex 20:12, we lengthen our days by honoring our Fathers.

Shalom Only. We can respectful debate. However, name calling and disrespect of women is strictly prohibited. 🚫
