Description

The National Institute of Mental Health (USA) defines childhood trauma as: “The experience of an event by a child that is emotionally painful or distressful, which often results in lasting mental and physical effects.”
Common Cause: Accidents.
Bullying/cyberbullying.
Chaos or dysfunction in the house (such as domestic violence, parent with a mental illness, substance abuse or incarcerated).
Death of a loved one.
Emotional abuse or neglect.
Physical abuse or neglect.
Separation from a parent or caregiver.
Sexual abuse.
Stress caused by poverty.
Sudden and/or serious medical condition.
Violence (at home, at school, or in the surrounding community).
War/terrorism

Effect :
Childhood trauma can also impact a person into adulthood as they experience feelings of shame and guilt, feeling disconnected and unable to relate to others, trouble controlling emotions, heightened anxiety and depression, anger.

Healing:
Acknowledge and recognize the trauma for what it is.
Reclaim control.
Seek support and don't isolate yourself.
Take care of your health.
Learn the true meaning of acceptance and letting go.
Replace bad habits with good ones.
Be patient with yourself.

This group is going to have discussion on child development, mental and emotional health, impacts of childhood in adulthood, dialogue on different philosophy about childhood, healing methods and reflection on self.
