Realism is a prevalent worldview that believes that the nation states of the world are in a state of anarchy and that cooperation between these nation states is very limited or non-existent. Realists refute world organisations like the UN and recognise their ineffectiveness in achieving any real policy changes on a global level.
Realists are of two categories :
1. Defensive Realists believe that nation states must create foreign policy that preserve the socio-economic stature of said country. Self-defence and sovereignty is the focus of defensive realism.
2. Offensive Realists believe that nation states must constantly compete with other nation states to further their own socio-economic stature. Big power politics are the focus of offensive realism.
