Description

This group was created out of a necessity to provide a unique data collection space to circumvent the limitations that the COVID 19 pandemic has placed on social gatherings. As a researcher, I have struggled to conduct Focus Group Discussions (FGD) this year -2021- because participants are not comfortable being in spaces with others who they are not sure of their vaccination status. Also, many of these participants are still working online and are not yet ready to embrace public gatherings.
Consequently, I have created this club for students, budding/seasoned researchers, and professionals who wish to poll out FGD participants from the 2 million weekly Clubhouse users. FGD is a qualitative method used to understand how opinions are “articulated, censured, opposed, and changed through social interaction” (Kitzinger, 2005 p. 58). Its essence is to “capitalize on group interaction, aiming to capture richly detailed responses”. The Clubhouse platform provides the opportunity for researchers to achieve the aims of organizing FGDs.
Based on these intentions, this club welcomes anyone who would like to take advantage of this opportunity to have public and closed rooms to conduct their FGDs. The sessions that would be held in this group must abide by research standards and requirements of the country where the researcher is initiating the research. For example, all studies from the US would have to present consent forms and Institutional Review Boards (IRB) approvals.
Finally, studies from all areas of academic inquiries are welcome.
