The purpose of Cinema Noir is to expand the visibility of black-oriented films and filmmakers; highlight the contributions of professional black screenwriters, directors, cinematographers and other film professionals to the cinematic artform; and provide a support circle for film projects in any state of production (screenwriting, principal photography, editing, etc.) that depict black experiences and/or thematically draw upon black perspectives. Our project includes analyzing depictions of antiblackness to further understand the quotidian and mundane ways that Black people are dominated and analyzing social life in social death to discern the joy, pain, and experiences of African Americans. Upcoming film selection will be posted at the beginning of the week along with the availability on streaming services. The discussion will take place during the following weekend.
