Somali Gender Equity Movement (SGEM) is a global movement inspired to work towards Substantive gender equity in Somalia’s social, economic, and political contexts.

SGEM comprises of diverse mass of Somali women inside the country and in the diaspora, who have united to advocate for gender equity in Somalia. SGEM is committed to research appropriate approaches that will ensure Somali women’s equitable representation in the public sphere.

SGEM will collaboratively work to implement coherent strategies in the areas of women’s political leadership, their role in peace building, reconciliation, conflict resolution, and representation in public sector decision-making processes.

SGEM is striving to bring about positive societal change through enhancing women’s rights in every aspect of socio-economic and political life.
