Individualisation, nationalism and global challenges

Nationalism and individualisation are often portrayed as opposites. The question is whether nationalism and individualisation share a lack of self-transcendence, the essential capability to think and act beyond their own entity, and hence are ruled by too much self-interest; and how that influences our capability to react effectively to global challenges.
