Welcome to D-Word!
During Divorce, very often children are abused and their rights ignored by their unfortunate weaponisation in the practice of 'Parental Alienation'. Whilst this term is controversial in that it used to be called 'Malicious Mothers Syndrome', probably due to the Gender roles and pre industrial revolution family constructs - the term has been changed, as this practice is not limited to mostly women anymore, which may be natural as women gained parity on equal opportunities and Gender rights, leading to earning power parity. - This in turn, caused less cases of financial oppression, and less pressure to use children to blackmail steeper settlements. It is possible that without the ability to 'bully' the ex, fathers began the use of children as pawns during high-conflict divorce cases to a greater degree, although research is still out on the subject; the W.H.O in 2019, flip-flopped on PA being a 'Syndrome' amidst protests from mental health professionals, the work Child Psychologist, Dr. Craig Childress (yes, I know...like Usain 'Bolt' is fast, Dr.'Childress' addresses the needs of the Child,...wierd no?), Parental Alienation is acutely explained in terms of modern day Psychological constructs which have been tried and tested by mental health professionals over several centuries.
Nevertheless, Parental Alienation is a big likely outcome after the D-Word, because it takes two to tango and can be a slippery slope.
If you're dealing with this or are unsure if you are part of it yourself, come and let us help you learn and clear the air about this phenomenon, which essentially comes down to cruelty - in preventing a parent from loving their child, and a deliberate distortion of a child's perception that they are loved by both their parents.
That is what this group is all about and we hope you will join us in learning more.
Thanks.
Jason Lo
