Tigray is a homeland of the, Irob (ኢሮብ), Kunama and Tigrayan people which have unique cultural, geopolitical and socio-economic distinctiveness. Irob (ኢሮብ) people inhabit remot local district presently known as Irob Woreda. Irob woreda is in the Eastern Zone making Adigrat the capital. Irob people are the minorities of the three groups with a population of only around 31,0000 which represents 1.3% of Ethiopia’s population. In terms of socio-economic organisation, in contrast to other Saho sub-groups that tend to remain nomads and devoted to transhumant pastoralist activities, the Irob are sedentary and engage in agriculture and cattle breeding. Their language Saho is a Cushitic language, as is the case with Somali, Oromifa, Afar and other languages in the Horn of Africa. Indeed, their language is very close to Afar. However, while Afar follows the Latin script, Saho follows the Ge’ez script.

Although small in number, Irob people have played a significant role in the political fabrica of the current Tigray specially in the 19th century. The conflict that ravaged Irob land and people was the Ethio-Eritrean war 1998-2000. For 2 decades Irob was a military camp & never recovered from traumas & war crimes it lived. is existential threat to Irob minorities. The Irob people had not healed from the wounds of Ethio-Eritrean war when The central government waged war on its own people of Tigray on Nov. 04 - 2020.

Three months into the war, the world has learned that this was a full blown war that is far from over.

Since the war began, journalists have been banned, aid agencies are restricted from reaching 80 percent of Tigray's population, internet services are completely down, and telephone services are mostly cut off, with sporadic connectivity across Tigray.
* Over 60,000 Tigrayans have fled into Sudan, * Over 500,000 Tigrayans are internally displaced. * 4.5 million Tigrayans are at risk of starvation.
* After waging a genocidal war on Tigray, PM Abiy has committed numerous war crimes with his Eritrean dictator by his side.
