Founded in 1823, the Oxford Union is the most famous debating society in the world.

For ~200 years, the Union has enabled inquisitive members to hear new ideas and debate the issues of the day. The Union has invited key figures in history to stand before its members, honing the intellect of its audience and enabling members to challenge, interrogate and debate them.

Civil disagreement is a cornerstone of a liberal society. The Union is proud of its record of holding speakers to account and allowing its members to challenge difficult views. Times change, but as Oscar Wilde (probably) said:

"I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an ass of yourself".

The club hopes to stimulate your interest in the Union with the wide variety of panels, debates and speakers from all walks of life.
