Reclaiming Our Roots (@reclaimingourroots) was birth out of a self given right of passage3 month Afro trip. It is a way to connect with people from the African diaspora while celebrating and emerging ourselves in the various cultures, traditions, and foods.

Our purpose is to promote black joy and triumph, to connect the African diaspora with the motherland, and to bring awareness to Africa and the Diaspora culture.

What inspired Reclaiming Our Roots? There’s a famous quote, “to be African American is to be African without memory.” As we embarked on a new chapter in our lives, turning 30, we wanted to reconnect to what essentially makes us who we are. That specific element is the continent of Africa. In a time where we see ourselves constantly attacked and not appreciated, we wanted to bridge that gap and bring enlightenment on how western society doesn’t have to dictate what it means to be Black and great. We want to show even when they try to stripe Africa away from its ancestors we will still rise to the occasion.
