Description

No topic is (or ever will be) off-limits. The only actual rule is: thou shalt use thy words constructively.

Words are tools. In this group, we are endeavoring to build understanding across ideological divides. Therefore, we must do our absolute best to stay rational and calm, no matter what happens.

WHEN STARTING A ROOM:
Take a stance on an issue, articulate your stance clearly and concisely in the room title, and support your stance with at least one piece of evidence (anecdotal evidence is welcome, but be prepared to answer lots of questions about the anecdote) in the room description. Ideally, give an analogy or an example that further illustrates your point.

By creating a room, you are committing to respond constructively to the first 5 people who join, no matter what.

WHEN SPEAKING:
Listen before speaking. Think about what others are saying, and contemplate your responses with a clear head. Emotional and/or ideological appeals are absolutely okay, so long as they’re worded clearly and thoughtfully. Just because you think you’re right doesn’t mean you are.

We begin conversations with the assumption that everyone’s stance/story/view/paradigm is interesting and valid in SOME way, however obscure. Likewise, NO stance is fundamentally correct and true in every possible way. Deep down, we are all fools. None of us gets to patronize anyone else.

Facts are cool, but don’t hide behind them. A fact is a data point, not an argument. If you present a statistic or a data point, be prepared to explain why you chose it and why it matters.

Tl;dr - thou shalt use thy words constructively.

Let the games begin...

Thou Shalt Use Thy Words Constructively:
Thou Shalt Title Rooms Based On Sincere Questions Or Stances: Examples: “What exactly is the difference between a nice guy and a good man?” Or “Opinion: the J&J covid vaccine is just as safe as the flu shot”
Thou Shalt Back Up Thy Stances With Evidence: Even if it’s anecdotal. Do your best. If you’re asking a question rather than taking a stance, then do your best to be unbiased and curious.
