Data is often seen as a distant thing that has to be searched out. This is about as far from the truth as one can be. Let's say a theoretical business sells icecream. Someone wants a scoop of rocky road. How much is it? That's data. Do you have it? That's data. How much more will be coming in the next delivery? That's data.
The collection of these data points is often stored in a dataset. These can be used to “guess" how much icecream one needs to order in the next truck among other things. Having the items customers want to buy results in income. In the case of business, data=income. This is very important for a business. In the case of an icecream shop, data=rocky road icecream. This is very important to me.
