Having a mother unable to love, care and nourish a child can be absolutely debilitating for a child. Adult children of unloving and abusive mothers often feel isolated, abandoned and alone thinking it was their fault, they are unlovable or that they need be invisible to be liked. Close relationships feel scary, connecting hard and often they feel as alone as they were when they were little. The motherwound can shape our whole life, how we thing of us and others. This club is for us. For the children who deserved so much better! Healing our inner child, attending to the trauma and becoming our own mother - it’s a tough but rewarding journey, let’s not do it alone.
Never say „But she was/is your mum.“: People often feel called to say this as if it’s making it easier. It never helps and just denies someone’s experience which is gaslighting and another form of abuse.
Believe survivors: Experiences can be cruel, talking about it hard. Help creating a safer space by not questioning someone’s experience.
This is for the children: Not for the mums who feel like they failed seeking validation how they are good mums after all.
